The South Hams area of South Devon lies between Torbay and Plymouth and is bordered by Dartmoor to the North.
A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and with the benefit of The Gulf stream ensuring a higher than average temperature all year round, the mild climate and beautiful Devon scenery make The South Hams the ideal location to take a relaxing break at any time of the year. The South Hams has 12 award-winning beaches. Most beaches offer safe swimming and various water sports including surfing and scuba diving. Secluded rocky or sandy coves frequented by smugglers in the past are today ideal for swimming and sunbathing or simply exploring, while the entire area including nearby Dartmoor offers many delightful walks, ancient features and an exceptional variety of flora and fauna. There is good fishing and there are many excellent golf courses in the area. We are also only a few minutes' drive from Buckland-tout-Saints, a Georgian manor house (now a hotel) popular as a venue for weddings and wedding receptions.
If you are keen on walking, there are numerous picturesque footpaths in The South Hams which are within easy reach, including the famous Devon coastal path. For your holiday shopping, visit our local owner-run shops in nearby Kingsbridge, Dartmouth or Totnes, full to the brim with quality, interesting goods and where old-fashioned courtesy and service still come first - so different from city centre stores.
